Field Trips

You must be a member of the society in order to go on Field Trips.
The Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society has approximately seven field trips each year. They are the months of March, April, May, June, July, August and October. September is our annual picnic at Mississippi Petrified Forest, and serves as a program/field trip for the month of September.
Our field trips are always on the forth Saturday of the month. Most of our field trips are to nearby creeks where there the water has washed the gravel, where one can find fossils, petrified wood, and agates, etc. We only collect on land where the landowner allows our club to hunt and we only collect on land that we have permission to collect. We must take care to conduct ourselves in such a way that we are invited back again. We follow the American Code of Ethics, which you can download a copy by clicking on the following link.
We occasionally have field trips that are farther away, and we are affiliated with the Dixie Mineral Council, which has monthly field trips for members in locations all over the southeast United States. Since we are a member club in the Dixie Mineral Council, our members are allowed to participate in the DIXIE MINERAL COUNCIL trips.
