The MGMS Lapidary School is used for our meetings and classes. It’s located just a few miles south of the capitol city of Jackson at 176 Tazan Avenue, Florence, Mississippi. Although the address is Florence, the School is located in a residential area just south of Richland.
In addition to a large meeting room, the MGMS Lapidary School has much to offer the members. The School’s library has books available for checkout by members and a research-only section. Samples of fossils, minerals, and rocks are displayed throughout the building. The School’s saw and cabbing work rooms are equipped with grinding and polishing machines, different sized saws for cutting rocks, and other equipment used in our hobby. The equipment may be used for a small hourly fee by members who have completed the appropriate classes. The School also has rentable storage lockers and a kitchen.
Construction on the Lapidary School was begun in 2006 with donated funds and member volunteer labor after almost 50 years of having lapidary and special interest classes in homes and carports. The work continues – we’re still growing.
